my BN tend to be very fussy what veggies they eat. they tend to only like raw cucumber (which they love) so as i read somewhere there wasnt much in the way of nutreints in cucumber i was getting a bit worried so decided to try them on mellon
and as you can see they love the stuff!!!

Yep most pleco love cucumber, zucchini, melon etc. the only thing with melon is the sugar content. If left in the tank too long (like over night) they can cause an algae outbreak.
Check here for more suggestions and pics too
It's true, plecos love their cucumbers... & it's not just plecos... or cucumbers

Also they like peaches. I feed my plecos in my outdoor pond peaches.

Aldric, what is the spiral piece inserted into the melon. I assume it helps the melon to sink and stay on the bottom?
Thanks!

its called a screwcumber you can buy them from ebay its made from stainless steel so is totaly safe for fish and its sold as a aid to waight veggies in ur tank so that fish like plecs can eat them

This excellent and versatile device is for feeding vegetables to tropical fish, using it couldn't be any simpler, used alongside flake etc... Fresh veg provides nutrients and variety while boosting the health and vitality of many tropical fish, many bottom feeding fish such as plecs, Ancistrus, Otos, loaches, Malawi Cichlids etc will especially appreciate feeding in this way. Simply Twist a section of Cucumber or other veg onto the Screwcumber and drop into your aquarium.

Will hold down an 25 - 75mm (1" - 3") section of Cucumber.

Premium product:

Made entirely from very high quality Marine grade Stainless steel. Extreme corrosion resistance, highly inert. (Choosing this product takes away the uncertainty of guessing which household items are safe for your fish when weighing down veggies in the tank).
Minimises the amount of bruising to veggies with it's corkscrew action, resulting in less clogging of filters caused by premature degradation.

The Screwcumber is a very rigid device that won't break, wear out or bend out of shape. The Screwcumber will give years and years of service! Which means excellent long term value for our customers.

Snails.

Excellent tool for feeding veggies to apple snails, or alternatively if your aquarium is overrun with snails like the Ramshorn this can be used effectively with Cucumber to attract unwanted snails for easy removal from your aquarium.

Which Veggies? - Cucumber, boiled carrot, Melon, Courgette, Tomato, Round lettuce, Zuchinni and apple are popular examples.

Very quick, effective and simple to use.

Instructions:

Chop or slice the vegetable as necessary.

Screw onto the Screwcumber.

Place in tank.

Remove any uneaten Veggies after several hours.

Made in the UK.

Britains leading aquarist publication; Practical Fishkeeping magazine gave this product excellent reviews.....

A Screwcumber like all great ideas, they're cunningly simple, it's just a twisted piece of rounded metal that you can screw into vegetables and place in your fishtank. Feeding veggies to many aquarium fishes greatly improves their vitality through additional nutrition.

"Experienced plec keepers (and breeders) have been doing this for years with items such as cucumber, courgette, melon, tomato, potatoes, lettuce, Kale and loads of other non-citrus produce, boosting the nutrition available to their fishes".

"The problem with all this good stuff going into the aquarium is twofold. First it floats and second it can be difficult to handle in terms of removal or break up into smaller pieces. The Fishkeeping hardcore might prefer the old rubber band tied to a rock (generally great but not good at keeping it all together - and the bands perish quickly. Some plecs also chew the band, expediting its demise). For under a fiver get a pair of Screwcumbers!"
