What kind of pleco do I have?

This is my newest addition to the clean-up crew.

Looks like a common pleco to me, I hope you have a huge tank as it will reach around 18" when full grown.

They also produce huge amounts of waste so you will need to step up water changes to keep the tank in good conditions and increase filtration.

I agree with anna ...nice looking fish too! but with all the ammonia issues you have had, why add another big ammonia producer? hes going to really throw things off worse

I'm guessing the common pleco is the largest growing pleco? Or are there other plecos that could grow that big? I've seen a chocolate albino pleco grow up to 18" before

Common =( The owner told me it wasn't a common. Unless it's a variety of a common. His wing span is much wider than the commons that I've seen. Sigh... I got ripped off.

Looks like a Gibbiceps to me, though they grow just as large. Common pleco's aren't the largest species; the Adonis, for one, will grow larger.

I thought about P. gibbiceps but it's not as dark as mine so I don't know. That would explain the large fins9wings) though if it were a sailfin.
