Do all plecos grow excessively large?

I have a 37 gallon column tank (tall not long), I would love the addition of a pleco, but I've seen how large they get. My parents have one and he's at least a foot long and growing, my brother had one but had to take it to our local fish store as it out grew their tank; the fish store still has him and I'd say he's at least 15 - 16" long. Is there a type of pleco out there that doesn't get too big?

There are allot of smaller pleco's. Bristlenose plecos would work too.

Bristlenose and clown pleco's are the most commonly available smaller species. Here's a link you might find helpful, you can also check out planetcatfish.com for more info on specific species.

PlanetCatfish allows you to search by size:

Note: the correct family for plecos is Loricariidae. If you select that and leave everything other than size blank, you'll get all plecos within your chosen size range.
