Bristlenose Plecostomus not eating algae

Hi,

I have a bristlenose pleco in my tank for a few weeks now and he looks fine and when ever i put an algae wafer in there he always eats it, but it doesn't eat the algae in my glass. Does any one knows why?

He always stays under and sometimes inside the driftwood. When the lights are off he sometimes come out of the driftwood, but he never goes to the glass.

Any one knows why?

Hello ATP. Pleco's prefer darkness (nocturnal) over light. I would think he's out and about while the lights are off and you're sleeping. Although they do like algae they won't completely clean the glass. They really like driftwood, cucumbers other things besides algae. As it gets older and adapts more to his new home he will come out more

No, it's not ICH. It's just like patches where the black color is pale

The above link has some graphic pictures (so be prepared) of fish disease. Check it out and compare it to the symptoms of your fish.

I have heard that when the BN pleco gets paler it is not feeling well.
As far as not eating your algae in the tank, I had two of them and neither of them ate the algae.

I'm starting to think it's not a problem any more. It's started to come out and eat algae on the filter pipe thin and the gravel. I think it's because he's new to my tank and maybe he's a little bit stressed. He looked a little bit better and I will try and get a picture of him. He doesn't look like he has any symptoms, but you can't be so sure so I put a little bit of Pimafix in it. Hopes he will look a little better.

Sad he's going to go in a bucket for a few hours next week I'm putting my tank on a stand I make. Still need to paint it, couldn't get the good weather., sometimes it's too hot and sometimes it's 50 degrees.

All fish need time to adjust to their new homes. I brought 3 baby albino bristlenose a few weeks ago and they took a week or so to settle in. You may want to put some potein foods in there for him/her, i.e bloodworm or such. Deshelled peas help, in fact any veg helps.
