bristle nosed catfish

I checked fishlore for their great information on the above catfish and found they didn't have any. Can anyone tell me what sort of temperature these catfish like. We tried Corydoras and they died. The Plecys are way to big and expensive for our tank but the Ancicterus and Megalechis are the ones I like. Can anyone help please?

Re: bristle nosed catfish

I'm thinking you are talking about bristlenose plecos, which are a species of catfish. Planet catfish is a great resource for all catfish information. Here is a link to just one species of bristlenose. There are many of them, so keep that in mind! Below the pictures is infomration you are looking for.

Now let's talk about your tank. How many gallons? What other fish are in the tank? Is your tank cycled? Cory cats are usually very easy to keep in a tank which has me concerned there may be some problems with your set up. Let us help you. Welcome to Fishlore, and I hope to hear back from you soon!

Re: bristle nosed catfish

Thanx. Checking out planet catfish. We ended up getting a couple of clown loaches as well as the bristle noses. Hubby fell in love with the long whiskered catfish and the plecos but the price range put us of until the tank is well established. The plecos are way expensive for a beginners tank.

Catch you all later.

Re: bristle nosed catfish

Bristlenoses are pretty tough little catfishes, they adapt pretty well to most water conditions and they dont get very large either so its perfect for the smaller aquarium. You might want to get those algae wafers as well because they really enjoy them.

Fishnewbie WELCOME!!!!!
Love those clown loaches too, although they do need alot of room. They can eventually reach one foot in length and be fat boys and girls
