Thinking about a pleco

In my new office tank I think in these coming weeks I'll be adding a pleco. The tank is 35gal.
My biggest problem is that the pleco must be able to deal with the two Bolivian Rams who rule the bottom (and the middle...and the top). I'm serious, these fish are total jerks.
So any suggestion of a pleco who can hold his own and doesn't get too big would be great.

Clown or bristlenose should work. There are a lot of other smaller species of plecos, but some of them can be on the expensive side. If you want something a little less common, check out snowball, queen arabesque, tiger, peppermint, etc. Plecos, in general, are tough. They shouldn't have any trouble with the Bolivians.

Agreed.

I have two bristlenose that do fine with bolivian rams, even while the rams are spawning and extra-territorial.

35g really isn't big enough for a common plecostomus. what country do you live in? if you are in the US common plecos should be cheap and BN plecos are a bit more expensive. in Australia, where i live, common plecostomus's cost a fortune. for a pleco that's 4cm (nearly 2 inches) are $30, and that's on special!!!! they are really about $49.95 and for something 12 inches would be about $ 200-$300!!!!!! a lot of people i've talked to said they bought a pleco (in the US) and they were cheap. 12 inches for $15! and a 3 inch for $3

hope i helped

Common plecos around here are about $3, almost regardless of size- they are just that common.

Checked my main LFS yesterday and they had neither a bristlenose nor clown. So I'll have to check out some other local stores this week.

BN Plecos sound like the pleco for you, but I'd try to get them as big as you could.

I know it's a haul for you, but Pet Stop in Newburgh ALWAYS has at least 50 clowns and about 20 BN's.

Haha, don't be fooled, it isn't great, but they ALWAYS have lots of plecos.
It's the only place I've found that carries both types. I bought my clown from them. Petsmart in Newburgh SOMETIMES carries Rubberlips, but you know Petsmart...

My LFS have rubberlip plecos. I think I may pick one up for a tank at home (currently understocked and due to end of the semester/finals - things got a little behind in upkeep). Though a big weird BN would look good for the office tank.

Well, the number is 845-562-5158 if you do decide to make the trip, I'd call ahead to make sure they have them in. Although they ALWAYS seem to have them in, lol. They also carry gold Nugget Plecos, but they're a bit more pricey.
