I don't know what to do!!! =(

Okay. here's the deal. I have had a pleco in my 29 gallon for a few months now, he's super awesome. I also have a green spotted pufferfish in a 10 gal tank. he's about 1-2 inches long. I want to combine the two tank's. Some say the GSP does not need ANY salt. Other's say some, and OTHER's say ALOT! =| I was wondering if I combined these two fish in this one tank, will the Pleco do Okay with like 1/2 cup - 1 cup of salt in this 29 gallon tank?

Thank's in advance.

Hi Kerry

Welcome to Fishlore!!! Unfortunately, GSP's require almost pure salt water, and the pleco won't tollerate any salt. I would keep them separate. Here is a great write up on GSP's :

There is a lot of mixed information out there especially in regards to keeping puffers. The only assurance I can really give you is that the site that I posted a link to is a very reputable site and many members here use it as a great refference. PinkFloydPuffer will probably be along later today. She is very knowledgeble when it comes to puffers and can hopefully help you as well

Hi Kerry

In the book Aqualog: Guide to puffers of fresh and brackish waters by Dr. Klaus Ebert, the Dr writes of his experience (40+ years) in keeping puffers, and he notes that green spotted puffers kept in freshwater grow slower, stay smaller, have shorter lifespans, and are less resistant to disease. If that isn't enough reason, then I don't know what is And I can tell you from experience that GSPs are much more healthy and active in higher salinities.

Is your pleco a common? If so, he's going to outgrow your 29g in short order. (You probably are already aware, but just in case)

Good luck with your GSP

Yea. I got the Pleco going, we are moving soon that's why i am waiting to move the tank into a 55 gallon when I get that rather then move them all twice if that make's sense.

Thank's again! =)
