Bristle Nose Plecos and PH

Hi I was wondering how a bristle nose pleco would do in water with a pH of around 8.2. I know it is super high but thats just what it is around here. I tried lowering it with driftwood and even the API PH down drops but as soon as it dropped it would raise right back up to 8.2. I figure having it stable at 8.2 would be better than messing with it to much.

Anways.... I saw these guys for the first time yesterday at wal-mart. I don't to buy fish from there but I haven't seen them anywhere else and my choices are a bit limited in fish stores. So I would really like to get one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most fish will adapt if slowly acclimated. If you buy them check the pH of the water in the bag so you know how much difference(if any) there is. Being local to you the pH maybe close.

Yup, Carol is right.
My PH is around 7.8 to 8.00 and I acclimated 6 L-144's, which is allot like the albino bristlenose from a lower PH. I used the drip method. Here is the link on how to do it.

Good luck with him.

Our albino lfbn plecos have been doing great in the local ph of 7.6. Yours should be able to acclimate to the local ph and it definitely is best to leave the ph steady. We never had luck with those ph drops when we were starting out either.
