my plecos

Well, I finally got my pond cleaned out after the winter, and the water temp is staying above 74 degrees farenheit, so my cleaning crew finally got to go back outside. My two sailfin plecos (that are only a year old) are enjoying having all the room to swim and all that wonderful algae to munch on that has been growing all spring. Anyway, I took some pics before I turned them loose in the pond (and a couple of one that was hanging out on the side right below one of the shelves). Of course, I haven't seen them since. Oh well, such is the joy of having a pond. Some of the pics have a bit of glare on them from the sun reflecting off the house, but if you look in the shaded part you can see the pleco.

nice looking plecos and pond! how do you catch them again for the winter? seems like that would be pretty difficult.

Looks really nice. I hope you'll take pics of the same Pleco's when you bring them back in for the winter so we can see how much they've grown. Thanks for sharing.

My pond gets super cleaned about twice a year - fall and spring. I drain 99 % of the water out, and have clean hose water running in while the dirty water is being pumped out. My goldies (and other fish) are usually in about 8 inches of water in the bottom of the pond so it makes it a bit easier to catch the ones I want. They have no place to hide (insert evil laugh here). I know, I know, the whole no more than 50% water change - treat the water first - etc. I have a fish thumb when it comes to my pond. Either that, or I have been extremely lucky my whole life. Our water is good as is, straight from the hose, with no treatment necessary. If I need to move my fish, I fill a new container with straight hose water, catch the fish, and put them in the new water. When I am done with them and they can go back in the pond, I pick them out of the container - usually just with my bare hands - and back in the pond they go. I haven't lost a fish yet doing that.
