Does this happen to any of you too?

I think this is so weird but funny...
I just looked over and my pleco was on my filter eating algae. The funny part, though was that it was on the part ABOVE THE WATER! It had just kept moving up until it came out...
Does anyone know how this works, or if its bad? I think its really cool...
I was able to snap a few picture before it went back into the water.

I saw a bunch of small ones doing this at the LFS the other day. They were actually leaping out of the water and attaching themselves to the sides of the tank, eating a bit, and then falling back into the water. The water level was low because they were doing a water change. I don't know if this is common, but it sure was entertaining.

Its at it again, and I'm noticing that it actually has positioned itself under a slow stream of water drops
Do you think that could be how it can stay up there for so long? Because its been out for over a minute now...

My sons used to do that and wound up in the filter. We kept digging him out then we found him on the floor a few days later. It is darling to watch but they don't know when to quit

Didn't even think of that... the one mine gets on is a biowheel filter so he'd be in more trouble of getting ht by the wheel =/

That is just too cool. I know some snails lay their eggs above the water line. Thanks for sharing.

One of my friends is a school teacher. A couple years back she had a common pleco in a 55 gallon tank in her classroom. She didn't have a full hood on the tank, and her pleco must have found a way out. When she got to the classroom in the morning, the pleco was on the floor behind her desk. It had gotten out of the tank and wiggled it's way across the entire classroom from where the tank was in one corner to where her desk was in the opposite corner. She now has full canopy lids on all her tanks.

This is no joke. Years ago, I was babysitting neighbors girl who had used a guest bathroom and she had turned the lock and then closed the door (we figured this out afterwards and she had done it before). Anyway I decided to take the kids to McDonalds. Upon leaving I had accidently left the inner door going into the garage open (again we figured this out later). Then we left for McDonalds. My husband (police officer) came home. He opened the front door , saw that the door going from inside of house to garage was wide opened. He then noticed are two dogs were excited and sniffing the bottom of the bathroom door. He tried the lock..it was locked. We had lived in a high buglary city at the time. He banged on the door telling the person to come out. No one came out, so he called for back up. My neighbor friend said several police cars came to our house , so of course she came into the front door to listen what was going on. She heard my husband yell "get out , give it up" lol. My husband said they had guns drawn as my husband used a screwdriver to undo the lock, the lock fell into the bathroom. This was the tinest of all bathrooms...he peered through the lock hole.. **** no burgalar!!!! But the dogs were going "crazy" when he came home....it was the fiddler crab. HEHE He got out from the tank ran away along baseboards and under the closed bathroom door (had a large gap underneath) probably trying to get away from the dogs. We pieced it all together. It was so funny that was 16 years ago and he still gets teased !!!! I called the LFS to ask how they get out. They told me they get out all the time. Told the lady "you cant believe the trouble one crab caused !!

Plecos can be ok out of the water for a little while. Sometimes we'll hear the baby plecos in the betta tanks splashing their way up and into the filter at night.
