My pleco thinks he's a chameleon!!!

I love my pleco, he's such a character! I really wish I had pics to show you guys, but he's really too shy for me to get very many pics. But my thomasi pleco (L-187b) changes colors depending on the substrate! Maybe that's normal, but I'd never seen it before. My tank was barebottom until just recently when I added ecocomplete, and he turned from a light tan/grey/green color to a dark brown/black. It's so cool! Probably not that exciting to all of you, but I am thoroughly intrigued. Lol
Well, here's one pic of him, not that you'll be able to see how he changed color though...

My sailfin plecos do that too. When they are out in the pond (which is a black plastic) they are very dark gray/black, but when I bring them in the house they are much lighter and you can really see their spots against their lighter background color.

I had a common pleco that would turn white when it wanted food. It would then change back to it's normal coloration within a few seconds of dropping an algae wafer in.

Even more interesting, he wouldn't change white unless he SAW me in the room. I could sneak up on him and he'd be normal color. Then he'd turn white when he saw me...and back again when i fed him.

Very clever fish.

Thanks! I think Danno is a girl... but I call her a he anyways. That's what happens when you name them before you know what sex they are. Like my poor male molly I used to have that was named Janis lol.
