What kind of pleco? Today at Wal-Mart I saw a kind of pleco that I can't find info on anywhere. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture, but I noticed the difference between it and the common pleco's. This one was about the smae length (around 2"), and I'm sure it was a juvenile. It was light colored with lots of tiny dark speckles, and its body was taller than the bodies of the common plecos. Does anyone know what it was? If you think you know, could you post a link to pictures of that species so I can identify it? If it won't grow too big for my 29 gallon, I might get it.

The only pleco I've ever seen Wal-Mart carry are commons. It may have been a different coloration of the common, I had a "Chocolate" pleco. It was just a different color formation of a common.

I'm pretty sure that he just got mixed in with the commons when he was being shipped. I once bought a female guppy from Wal-Mart. I got her for 28 cents from a Rosy Red tank.

He most closely resembled a Dragon Hi Fin Pleco or a Red Fin Thresher Pleco. Probably the Hi Fin because the Red Fin's body didn't look tall enough to be this one.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but those are rarer plecos. I doubt that Wal-Mart would ever stock something like them. Even accidentally.

I found this picture by googling images of "speckled pleco", and it looks a LOT like what I saw, but I can't find out what kind it is.

| That is a chaetostoma sp. The most common one we see in LFS and WalMart is commonly called the Rubber Lip or bulldog Pleco . Here are a whole bunch to look at, maybe you can find the one you saw http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...enus_id=26#318

He's cool eh! The owner of my LFS sourced him for me specifically, they don't stock them. He cost a bit but was worth it!

Without a picture it's hard to say, buy the way it was described I would venture to guess L160, L172, L200, L205, L264, but I thought the link would help...sorry if it didn't.

The reason it's important to know what species they are so we can know what to feed them and how to provide care for them The link was fine I was just interested in which one you thought came closest.
