clown pleco nipping?

In my 55g I had three small albino corys along with one small clown pleco. I noticed the fins on the corys were being nipped at over night. One by one they all died. could this have been the clown pleco? I thought that they werent nippers.

are you sure they were being nipped? i haven't heard of clown plecos being that aggressive. the most mine does is nudge the catfish out of her log but for the most part thats it. The fish in your tank are peaceful and there aren't any "known" fin nippers. Puzzler.

might it have been fin rot? any of the other fish show these torn fins?

My clown doesn't do anything to my other fish. If another comes up to him, he's the first to swim away & hide.

The disappearance of the fins wasn't gradual. It happened to one cory at a time and the damaged fin was usually fine the previous day. Ultimately the corlys died. No other fish show any signs of fin damage.

Is this the same 55G you have listed in your info?

If so there are a few more candidates in there to be the cause of the problem other than the Pleco.

The tetras for example are far more likely candidates, as are the gouramis, not sure about the hatchet fish as I have never kept them.

The info is the same. I have never seen the tetras nip before. I have seen fish get between my lake kutubu rainbow fish and food. I had to get rid of those guys for fear that they might accidentally eat a small cardinal. Could it really be the pearls? They are so shy.

You have a lot of fish in your tank, why do you think it is the Pleco ?

I figure it was the pleco for a few reasons. Both the pleco and the corys are bottom dwellers and I have seen the pleco lunge at them if they get to close to his spot. The pleco is also nocturnal and the injuries happened overnight. The last reason is the mischievous look in his eye. It's like he knows that I know and he doesn't think I have the testicular fortitude to do anything about it. I'll get the last laugh though, I've been spitting on his algae wafers every night before I drop them in.
