| demented pleco? Hi everyone, I have had a common pleco for about 3 years now he is 8 inches long and over the course of time his back has grown crooked! you know how the suck the glass about 4 inches from the bottom and lay kinda crooked. His back maybe from constantly sitting there like that has grown inthis position of a crooked "L" has anyone ever had this happen to one of their plecos before? I thought it was kinda unusual. I would be very interested on anyone's take on this. thank you. -fishlover78 |

| Well somewhere along the way I heard that deformed spine is a sign of TB, but I cant tell you how or where i got that info so it might not be trure. It might also be genetics or inbreeding or something. |

| What size tank do you have him in? If he was kept in a small tank he could be stunted
If it's TB it's contagious and the rest of your fish will get it. |

| I know you will frown upon this, when I brought the tank homwe from the science lab there were 3 8 inch common plecos in a 27 gallon hex tank, and the poop on the bottom would be and inch thick by the end of a week, could the high levels of poop caused a disease? Because there were too many in the tank I sold two to the LFS. hope htis helps! -fishlover78 |

| also I did have a guppy plauge when they all died over the summer, I supsected they were all purchased at the same time so it was old age, maybe it was TB. -fishlover78 |

Check the first thing on this chart.
It all depends on how long those plecos were in that tank. Common Plecos are pretty tough when it comes to dirty tanks, the size may of been the problem. |

| well, the tank would usually be cleaned every week, and they lived in it for about 4 years. I have no Idea how to handle the situation, should I just let him live his life out in another tank with his buddies he has now, because the disease is in all their bodies, I read to freeze the fish so they died, but I really rather not do this. I am at a huge loss of what to do! someone help! -fishlover78 |

| he has been like this since he was and inch long, so that is why I didn't think he had any type of disease and the reason his fins are frayed is because he has took quite a few jumps out of the tank when I do maintenance regularly, I was all worked up about eddy there for a while! he also eats his plecomin tab every day. so he is just deformed? and yes Shawnie will definitely post a pic soon. Thanx all -fishlover78 |

| It's definately gentic then, not much you can do about that. Unless he show signs of discomfort, I'd let him live out his life. |

| It could have been from an injury when he was young and just developed gradually as he aged. If he does alright i wouldn't worry about it.
