Hi Black.J,

Sorry about what happened.

You will need to provide more information for us to help you.

1) Have you tested your water with a liquid test kit?
2) If you have, what are the results for pH, ammonia, nitrite & nitrate?
3) What's the temp of your tank?
4) What's the size of your tank?
5) What other fishes you might have in the tank?
6) How long have you had yr albino bristlenoses?
7) When you say you "just freed them", are you referring to the babies? Were they in a breeding net b4? You freed them into the main tank as your adult bristlenoses?

Apologies for all the questions but it helps us understand the situation better.

Keep your chin up.

I have albino bristlenose fry and they are about 1 month old now, one thing that I have learned is they need perfect water conditions, so keeping your waterchanges up is a must. Ammonia, nitrites need to stay -0-, nirates bellow -20- I keep mine at -10-, I have also took my fry out and put them in a species only tank so they have no other fish to pick at them. I make sure they have a back wall that grows algae, and I clean the sides and front, then I use a gravel vac once a week.
I feed them zucchini slices every other day on a veggie clip. and I keep my temp at about 78 degrees.
My little guys have been growing wonderfully.
Not to mention, I am getting ready to grab another batch of fry out of my big tank once again...
I have been raising different species of fish fry for 6 years though I don't know if that has anything to do with my luck?

Are you keeping them w/ the parents?
The other thing I have to ask is a genetics question, where did you buy your plecos? Sometimes LFS fish are poorly bred, and do not make good specimens to breed. However buying them from a breeder, etc you get a better quality fish.

The one thing I noticed when I was breeding bristlenose was that for the first couple of weeks the fry can't seem to get enough to eat (they also produce A LOT of waste because of this) and in a tank with other fish they have to compete really hard for the amount of food they need.
and as was said the water quality has to be as near perfect as possible.

the water was fine and tested every two days. i think the babies were disable. the Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate were all at 0. i was running the temp at 26 degrees and the were in the 4 foot tank. i had a rainbow shark in there. i got my ablinos in march this yr.
i freed them into the main tank as your adult bristlenoses

Hi Black.J,

Are your results for the 4 foot tank or the main tank?
You will need to test both tanks.

Is the temp of the main tank also 26?

What happened to your rainbow shark?

Hi Black.J,

I am so sorry to hear u have lost the babies.

Maybe you can refer to the replies by steveangela1 and butterfly so when u next get baby plecos you can better manage.

I hope you continue to test both yr tanks to ensure good water quality.

I have babies (mollies) die on me too but I learn from my mistakes and now I get higher survival rate.

Keep you chin up yah. All the Best.
