New Pleco...Green Phantom...pics added.

Baryancistrus demantoides (L200)

Today I added a Green Phantom (Lemon Spotted Green Pleco), and I was curious if anyone has any experience with them. He's rather shy, so getting a picture is prooving really difficult. Their max size is just under 6 inches and they are good algae eaters. Please share any knowledge or experience that you have in regards to this Pleco.

Congrats! These fish are truly beautiful! I never got one since I can't meet their requirements of very oxygenated, soft and acidic water.

Here's a very good article on their care:

Ok, I'm having problems with my Green Phantom. He has completely eaten a tank full of Amazon Swords. I give him fresh veggies (Zuccini, Romain lettuce, etc) every night, and he still managed to destroy a new plant added tonight. Anyone have suggestions to keep him from destroying my plants? Are there any plants that he would not likely eat? As much as I like him, he has forced me to completely replant this tank. Unfortunatey, the only two tanks suitable for him are heavily planted. I knew they had a tendency to eat plants, but he can ruin the whole tank in one night. I fear he will have to go!

People don't usually keep this species in a planted tank. All the ones I've seen were in tanks with rocks and wood only.

If you want to keep him in a planted tank, you could try really tough-leaved plants like Anubias and Java fern. They're not as tempting as Swords.

OR, you could dedicate a rock-and-wood tank just for him! Personally, I think he's worth it!
