plecs and air

I read some where that catfish are laberinth fish(sp) and i know plecs are catfish but do plecs have the laberinth organ and need to breath air?

I do not believe that they do, its not that they need to breath air, or they dont, its just that matter of how they get the air, most fish get the air from the water through their gill. the labyrith fish go up to the surface to get there air, thats the main difference so as long as you dont have your tank filled up the point that theres no air at the surface, which is basicaly imposible with out overflowling it, you woudlnt need to be to concerned

I don't know of any catfish that have air labyrinth organs.

Me neither.
You maybe thinking of Corys who dart to the surface and get a gulp of air. This gulp of air then moves down the intestine and oxygen is absorbed. Whats not needed is then passed out the anus as a bubble.

Our bristlenose plecos do the same thing with the gulping air, but Dino told me that it helps their digestion tract push stuff along.
