Zebra Imposter?

http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/2142/product.web

I'm no zebra expert, but doesn't this look a lot like a zebra? Is there any way that someone could try to sell a zebra, and really be selling this instead? I'd be mad if I paid $300 for a pleco that wasn't the real thing, lol.

No, that's the right link. Doesn't the model look a lot like a zebra? And for a lot less money.

It is possible, and I'm sure it's happened more than once, either through ignorance or dishonesty.

That's one of the big problems with common names for plecos... "zebra" can mean anything that has black/white stripes, or it can mean the L046 Hypancistrus zebra.

Edit: Now that I look again at the link you provided, it probably wouldn't fool anyone who was actually in the market for an L046. The stripes down the body would be horizontal, not vertical, if it were the real thing. I would hope that anyone who is willing to spend $300+ on a fish would have done enough research before spending the money to realize that, but you never know.

Zebras have vertical stripes near their head, and horizontal stripes along their body. This guy is simple vertical stripes (and looks more like a zebra than the zebras do ), so someone who's truly ready to breed zebras likely wouldn't make the mistake. I wouldn't put it past people to try, though.

That's a really beautiful fish. If I get my library job, I may be getting one.

Zebra plecos pattern is different and their white is really white.
Yes I would be poed if someone sold me the wrong pleco especially if wasn't to be a true zebra pleco.

The Leopard Frog Pleco is L134.
There a lot of the plecs that are striped and similar but sitting side by side you can see the difference.
