Surprise, surprise
Well, I thought it was going to take some time to get my BN plecos to spawn. I thought I had to do everything right, get them caves, and such things as that. I thought I had to get them through a "dry" season.
Turns out, everything I had thought was entirely wrong!!!!
I was getting ready to do my water change this week and found an entirely different problem...I have babies!!!!!!!!
I jumped out of my skin, since I have been reading things, and finding out that I'm doing everything wrong to get them to spawn. The tank isn't big, it's a 29, slightly overstocked and WAY overfiltered. Sure, there's plenty of driftwood for the little water machines. But, everything I'm reading says I've done everything wrong for them to spawn, but everything ok for them to live out their lives in complete happiness. Yes, I had excepted that I would never spawn them.
Boy, how wrong could I be?
Now, I have an extra 10 mouths to feed, and am looking for another tank to put the babies in, in a few weeks. I'm going to be setting up another 10 gallon tank for them, for awhile. So, they can grow out a bit. I have some extra driftwood to put in, so they should ok for that part any way.
Man, was I surprised.
There's nothing else in the tank, but bigger plecos. So, I'm not worried about them getting eaten or anything. I do know that they'll need a bit more care, which is why I'm going to be building them another tank.
I'm also going to be getting a bigger tank for the adults, so they have more room, etc.
And just when I thought I was fine with my tanks...they up and need more. LMAO
Does it ever end??

What are your water parameters? What are you feeding, and what other fish are in with them....
I have a M & F bn, and they haven't spawned...Just would like to know what you are doing...

Sustinia,
I'll have to check the water parms for you. I don't normally watch them closely. I check my water, to be changed, before I start pumping it to tanks. That was normal, if a bit hard this time. That's about normal, which is good for them, considering all the driftwood in there. I find that lots of driftwood makes them happy, and softens the heck out of the water. Honestly, I'm not put off by the brown water, so I just leave it. The tannins are good softeners, and they seem to like it.
I have 4 big pieces of driftwood, about 2 ft long or so in there, with water sprite floating on the top.
It's a species only tank, so there is nothing else in with them.
I feed them every other day, with zucchini and some algae wafers. The zucchini is always first to go. But, everything gets eaten.
@ Shawnie... Umm...yeah. Those are my tanks. Then there's my girlfriend's 55 gallon sororioty (SP?) with some female bettas, pearl gouramis, neons, and a kissing gourami. Plus her numerous male betta tanks. Plus, we're getting set up to start a 29 saltwater with a 20 gallon sump.

BN babies are so cute. We're getting a male for our females this week. We want to promote the bristle nose as a replacement for the common pleco. When we open our store there will be no common plecos at all. BNs are perfect for just about any tank 15g+.
Congrats!

Yea, I love our tiny little albino LFBN plecos.. I sure hope we have male & female. They're such great little cleaners and yea, I think stores should sell them instead of common plecos unless the customer has a tank 75g or more.
