Growth of Pleco's

Hello Everyone.

I have only to questions to ask of our knowledgable community...
1) In your opinion, how many inches does a common pleco grow in a month with good conditions?
2) When is the best time to feed my pleco, i just got him 2 days ago. This isnt mine but it looks like this...,http://www.flickr.com/photos/fakeplasticalice/370889438

They grow according to their environment. If they are in a 10g tank, they will have a stunted growth cycle. Say, only 1/2 inch in a year whereas had he started off in a 55-75g tank he may have grown 1-1.5 inches.

Did you learn about the nitrogen cycle yet?

Plceo is one of the highest waste producers(Right up there with goldfish) and he could kill himself with his own fesces due to ammonia poisining if your tank is not properly cycled and is only 10G(which he will soon outgrow).

I would do 25-40 percent water changes every day until the cycle is complete or go get some Bio-Spira which will give you a cycle in a few days. Also pick up a test kit API Freshwater Test Kit to follow your readings until Ammonia-0 Nitrate-0-10 Nitrite-0

You can read all about the nitrogen cycle if you go up to the top of this page, click on articles, and open the link on nitrogen cycle. It is the MOST important thing to learn on keeping a tank successfully.

Hello. I have the same kind of pleco.
You can read about the nitrogen cycle here http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm
Your pleco will poop ALOT ....I wouldnt reccomend any other fish in a 10 gallon with him and I would say if he is a baby he will outgrow that tank by himself in about 6 months, and that is pushing it. Not so much for size, but waste (poop)
When you see a piece of his poop laying around, suck it up with a turkey baster. If you do this everyday or two, it will go a long way in keeping the water quality good. In addition to regular water changes of course.
Hope that helps...they are nice plecos. He is my hubbys favourite fish, or else I probably would have returned the (not-so) little pooper for a smaller type.
