Aquarium dimensions smaller than advertised, still o.k. for pleco?

Hello (again) =)

So I purchased several pieces of driftwood for my aquarium. When they didn't fit I measured it and discovered that it is over 1/2 narrower than advertised on the box. It should be 13" wide. Instead it is only 12 and 2/8" I had planned on getting a leopard frog pleco and the size of my aquarium is 20 gal. Knowing now that it is even smaller than this I'm concerned about there being enough room for the little guy. My overall tank dimensions are 24" long x 12 3/8" wide x 17" high. Is it still o.k. to get a pleco? Does anyone know how long it takes for plecos to reach their full size? I'm now thinking of saving up and upgrading to a 55 gal that I can move the pleco to after he/she has grown a bit.

Your tank is fine for this pleco, which only grows to about 4 1/2 inches. I dont' think he'll mind a fraction of an inch less room.

For these little guys, the aquascaping - rocks and wood - is more important than the size of the tank.

Don't forget to post pics when you're set up!

Yay!!! Thats great news!! I went ahead and set the tank up this morning. I've got two pieces of driftwood in there already and I am going to get some rocks to make caves later this week. I've already noticed that the way my filter is positioned, a nice current is flowing over my long curved piece of driftwood...I can't help imagining that this will become a favorite hang out for my pleco

Plecos are strange, he might bunk up just where you want him, then again mine usually likes to stick onto the bach of the heater.
