Rubber Lip Suicide

One monday morning as i was getting ready for my prison sentence (skool) I started my routine checking my tank turning on the light and seeing if my fish were good. This time i noticed one of the wheels in my biowheel filter was stuck and had my favorite little guy wedged between the wheel and filter side. Dry and dead i wept and removed him from the horrible scene. There isn't any logical explanation for this. A rubber lip pleco suicide, no way he could have been sucked up from the filter he must have jumped into the wheel! Hmmm any thoughts?

Stuff happens sometimes my favorite thing about fish is the mystery that goes along with them.

tuff way to start a day, sorry bout your pleco. We can't stay with them 24/7...if we could we ALL would. All you can do the best you are doing to take care of everybody, cuz you have to take care of you, to be able to take care of your fish.

Oh no....I'm really sorry. I lost a baby BN to my filter awhile ago and felt just terrible too. Not suicide, but Plecos are very attracted to strong water flow, so often head for the filter outflow.

My newest little BN did the same thing, but he was small enough to get in the filter under the Bio wheel and I found him inside the filter unharmed.

I then cut a piece of craft canvas the right size to fit on the lip of the filter outflow (without touching the wheel) and elastic banded it into place. This forms a little fence that my pleco can't get over.

If you decide to get another little pleco, you could do the same.

Sorry about your little guy My son had a bristlenose that he kept finding in the filter box. It was really puzzling until we noticed he kept cleaning the filter uptake tube and would work his way out of the water and up the overflow into the box. I guess all those slimey yummies were just too much to resist.
