Holding down cucumber?

I just got my first pleco and have been reading about there diet. I read that they love cucumbers!! So I took a slice and put it in the tank. Then watched the slice float all around the tank!! Very funny!! hahahah. So how do you hold it down? and when is the best time to feed him? should i put it in the day or night? I have been putting waffers in at night he loves them!! Thanks for the help!!

...also how much do i give him? he is about 4 inches long.

Veggie Clips. Most local pet stores have them for under $2. I found mine in a bargain bin for $.99 at Pet Supplies Plus (Don't think it was supposed to be there, but I wasn't going to argue!) I give mine a slice about 3/8 thick. Leave the skin on, helps the clip hold on after they chew most of the fruit away.

The veggie clips are great. I just got some, but until I did I took the cuke or zucchini slice and used an elastic band to attach it to a rock. You can do that until you get the clips.

We use stainless steel curtain clamps for a lot of the veggie feeding here.
Less than 3$ for a dozen and tank/fish safe.

I typically put mine in as the wife is making salads for dinner, early evening. My pleco is a lazy old hog though, he'll eat anytime you feed him, as much as you'll feed him. But the ghost shrimp and the balas prefer to nibble it in the dark...

I use the rubber band/rock method. I have 1 rock that I use all the time and I just keep the rubber band on it. I found that if you make a little notch in opposite sides of the chunk of cucumber, the rubber bands fit right into those notches and it holds the cucumber in place.

Sometimes I use a stainless steel fork. But since I have 6 tankful of plecos now, I need a dozen of them that I always run out of forks for dinner so I made something out of clay. It works and it's safe. I'll post pix of what it looks like.

Marrows, water melon, lettuce.
You could also lodge the veggie under deco.

That's a great thread, Butterfly.

I use plant weights for my zucchini. I toss it in the microwave for a minute, and then stab it with a plant weight or two. They don't seem to mind eating around the weight and...the food stays put.
