| Gotta get another BN! Got my first ancistrus 2 weeks ago. He's so awesome I must have another. So while browsing around PlanetCatfish, I came across this picture and decided I want one just like him! My LFS has some golden ones!!
Meet Bozo, the BN Clown. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...p?image_id=762 |

| That is a long finnned albino species 3 ancistrus.
Most do not get that impressive looking. |

| No, not my pic (I wish) I just find it's hilarious.
Dino, the tiny yellow BNs at my lfs are probably less than 2".
If I get one completely devoid of bristles, can I be confident that it's female, or is that size too small to be sure?
Are the yellows more fragile than the regular coloured BNs?
Thanks for any info! |

Thanks for any info! | I think by the time they are 2" you know whether it's a male or female...our regular bn female is just over 3". Our 3 babies are still 2" and under but I will inform you if/when we see any bristles. I am not a fan of the male bn but they are excellent algae eaters. | At 2 inches there should be some sign of bristles.
The yellows are a bit more fragile while they are under an inch, once that get past that, I see no differences in their healthyness. |

| Thanks for the info, all! I think I'll go get one. There were two with no bristles at all, so I'll assume they're female.
They're very expensive compared to the reg. ones, so I want to be sure I'm not making a mistake. Quote: |

| Because of the bristles...or...? |

| Good luck with your bristlenose's gender. They are definately very pretty. I love the yellow creamy coloration of the albinos. |

| Glad to know they're not more delicate! Yes, the yellow is very bright. Tks again. OTOH, don't know why I care about colour, since I"ll probably never see it. I admit the bristles are kind of... icky when they're long, but the job this guy has done on the algae in my 20 gal. makes me overlook that.
But even my cory seems creeped out. |

| They had the long finned species linked in my first post, at about 4", which were tempting, but the price (30$) was not.
I hope my new little one will do well! (S)he's very agitated at the moment, poor thing.
Side view (bad pic) - there seem to be no bristles at all, so hoping it's a female: |
