Shy BN Pleco

My BN is very very shy...if he notices he, he runs to his hideout...is there any way I can make him less shy so I can look at him up close? I usually watch him from afar so I don't scare him, but sometimes when I kinda want to check him for diseases he always runs away...

I just got an ancistrus last week. He was out and about for awhile, but I haven't seen him in days other than a brief glimpse. This is just their nature.

We've had the same 6 bristlenose adults in a 200g for over a year now and ours continue to be shy to this day. I attribute it to each fish having different personalities, you just have to be lucky to get a non-shy BN pleco, I guess.

Alright, thanks for the info
I just wish he doesn't get spooked so much when I look at him up close to inspect him

One trick that may work is if you start by only approaching when you want to feed them. Try approaching the tank at a normal pace and drop an algae wafer in, or something they REALLY like and stand there for 5-10 minutes.

Either way, I wish you luck in teaching your BN to be less shy.

The more places you give them to hide, the more they are out and about.

I have put TOO many places to hide in my tanks. All the fish, and the snails love them. As a result...I see a lot of them. I also like to sneak up to the tank too, so as not to startle them.
