I have a galaxy pleco in a tank by himself. There used to be snails in there. They all died. It seemed that he would suck on their shells and caused cracks in them and shortly after they died... coincidence? anyone else had this problem?

I read on a website that they should be kept by themselves .. is this true? I have another tank I would like to put him in as I would like to get rid of the tank that he is in. Are there fish that he won't get along with? In the other tank are three unidentified fish (trying to figure out what they are) and what looks to me like an albino catfish (cory?)
