emergency c-section red platy fry

10 gal tank, cycled 1yr+ monthly 2.5 gal changes all 0s temp 76-78F pH 7.2-7.4. 2 yr old red pregger platy, 2nd pregnancy became rigor-mortis past 2 days. disoriented, sideways upside down, easily captured by hand so I had to put her out of her misery quickly with a pair of clippers through the head. I pulled about 30 sets of eyes and decently formed bodies. 5 started swimming in their cups. Is there something I can do for preemies or sit and wait? they look big, maybe their yolks or something. 20 or so have not moved yet. I do feel bad, but I know I couldn't do anything else but save fry from that platy or lose them all.

wow

This really is an emergency c-section, I could never do this, too queasy. I guess it really is just a waiting game. You can slowly raise the temperature to about 82 temporarily as an incubation of sorts, help them grow a little bit.

Just curious what, if anything, became of your little fry. So sorry to hear about their mother.

sorry to get back so late, I haven't been to this site in a while. Many would be happy to know that 18 of the 24 total are alive and well, suprisingly enough. I thought I'd lose all of them. I put them alone in a 10 gallon tank, all stayed in the gravel, some for as long as a week. I started seeing 3 swimming one day, then 5, then 12 or so on up to 18. they live outside the "womb" I guess and continue developing if nothing eats them.
