| | Moderator | Hello Jaws. I don't see a problem with keeping a few fry in the 1g since it does have filtration. Too, since you have plans to move them is even better. Keep a close eye on the water chemistry and keep up with water changes and the fry should be ok for a little while. If you start having ammonia issues then it's time to rehouse them. Best of luck.

| | Fish Bum | Ok. Could I keep like 4 for 2 weeks, or is that too many? |

| | Moderator | keep the tank bare bottom, with the filter and heater of course, and you can keep many fry in there for a few weeks...just do partial water changes a few times a week to keep their tank prestine |

| | Fish Bum | Ok. Thank you. Once my platies have fry I'll transfer a few in to the tank. Also, once they are big enough to put in a 150 gallon tank, can i put shrimp in the one gallon? If so, how many ? |

| | Moderator | +2 for Shawnie. Personally, I would only keep the fry in the tank and not shrimp at this point. Once your fry grow out then consider adding the shrimp to the small tank.

| | Fish Bum | She has dropped more, but I can't find them. One of the fry I couldn't catch, so he is in my 14 gallon, but the other is now in a 1 gallon filtered tank. How and what should I feed Sushi? I really want him to survive, so I'll buy anything I need to feed him. |

| | Fish Mentor | I was told flakes, bloodworms, brine shrimp, pretty much what you feed your adults just crushed really well for the itty bitty mouths |

| | Fish Bum | Ok. Thank you. Will they see it, or do I have to like lead them to it? |

| | Fish Mentor | Ours eat by themselves, but they were just born yesterday and this is my first platy fry.
Hopefully another member who has spawned platys before will see this thread. They'll be able to provide you with more information. |

| | Fish Bum | Mine won't come up to the top to eat. Are they going to starve, or do you think that they will pick up the flakes off the ground? |

|
| | Fish Mentor | Do you have any brine shrimp? Maybe that would coax them to eat. |

| | Fish Bum | I'll buy some tonight, but they just started eating flake food. I caught two out of my 14 gallon, and they are in with Sushi, so now I have 3 platy fry. They are the cutest things. I am going to have to buy another aquarium to keep them in. Do you think 5 gallons is a good grow out size for the fry? |

| | Fish Mentor | Since Shawnie and Aquarist48 both thought the babies would be okay in a 1g to start with (they both have more experience than I do), I would say yes , they would be okay in a 5 gallon as long as you're still planning on transfering the babies to the 100 gallon later on. If not, I'd advise at least a 10 gallon.
But definitely keep an eye on your water parameters and if you have any ammonia or nitrite spikes, do partial water changes accordingly |

| | Fish Bum | Ok. I'll buy a 5 gallon aquarium. Once the babies are about an inch long I'll transfer them. |
