| My Platy Fry: updates and pics I can't resist making a thread for my new platy fry!
I am such a proud "mom" and I need somewhere to post updates on how they are doing and to share some of the millions of pictures I keep taking!
After our rescue mission "operation save-the-fry" on 7/10, the 8 fry we rescued have been doing great!
The older 3 babies are getting HUGE and starting to show some hints of color! And today, 2 of them went to the top of the tank to feed! I nearly cried with pride!
So far we've named the black one Spot and the one that looks like his Mom (a sunset mickey) Filet.
The 5 newborns are putting on good weight and no longer look like eyes with a bit of an orange tail fin! They are not being chased by the older fry anymore and are not hiding as much.
But the best news of all is that when I was doing a water change in the 55g tank, I accidentally vaccumed up a new fry!
Thankfully I was able to release him almost instantaneously and the rasbora that tried to eat him missed!
We were able to get him out of the tank without much hassle and he is now in the fry tank swimming around with his new buddies. WHEW!
Anyway, I hope you all enjoy my updates and pictures...I know livebearers have babies ALL the time, but this is a first for me and I am just smitten! Last edited by mercurybebe; July 14th, 2009 at 09:59 PM.

| The fry are now enjoying their new tank!
We went out and got them a 10g tank since the 30g was just too big and really, I have a severe case of MTS.
It was much easier catching them this time around and I am happy to report that all 9 of them are enjoying all the plants and places to hide in the smaller tank.
I will post new pics tomorrow for everyone to see...they have gotten so big!
Of course I had to re-do the 30g that they were in, and it is now seeded with cycled media and waiting to get some new residents! |

| Fry Update! Well, it seems like little miracle fry are common at my house! I was moving my male platies out of the "bachelor pad" and found a fry!
This is *really* weird since I have not had any female fish in that tank for over a month!!
My partner and I were sooo confused as to how it happened, but we finally realized that we had moved a big plant out of the 55g into the Bachelor Pad about 2wks ago, which is about how old the fry looked to be. So it seems that he was a little stowaway and somehow made it through all of that...little stinker!
Here are some more pics! The 1st is of the new tank, my favorite part is the sign! #4 is of little #10, and the last one is of a fry in the treasure chest! Last edited by mercurybebe; July 19th, 2009 at 12:26 AM.

| Update! We have a total of 15 fry in the fry-tank and 3 brave souls in the 55g tank that we haven't been able to catch yet!!
In pic #1 we have Salty, who is clearly the same age as Spot, only he is braving it in the big tank!
Pic #2 shows Spot and another same-age buddy admiring their reflections!
Pic #3 is of a bunch of the fry in the fry-tank saying Hi!
Pict #4 proves that there are many more fry to come!!! |

| The babies are adorable and they're growing so fast!
That sign in their tanks is too cute!
One of your threads earlier mentioned your partner getting you involved in fishkeeping. Sounds like you have a good one. Now you both can bond and create and let your creative juices flow as a partnership to create new things and ideas (hopefully tanks and tanks of beautiful, happy, healthy fishies) |

| I actually got a dwarf platy because he reminded me of my little fry!
Yes, the girls are in the 55g tank and every last one of them is pregnant! All 4 of the platies and all 3 of the balloon mollies! We are going to go another fry catching spree after they all give birth and after that we are hoping that there won't be any more fry (but I know about that 6 month thing) since the males are separated now...except for the yellow one in the pic b/c he was being attacked in the male tank...but it is temporary...ah, see the MTS problem!?!?
So after this batch we will likely just see if any fry survive...clearly it is possible in that tank despite the cory cats and CAE! |

| What type of platy is on your July 19 post, the middle photo on the left side? My brother adopted one just like it from Petco. Someone didn't want it so they brought it to Petco. Since it wasn't from a shipment of theirs, they were unable to tell us what type it was. I'm just curious. |
