| 29G Platy tank with Fry :) Wahooo..I figured out how to save my fry. I divided my 29G, replanted the adult side and the neighbor fry. My first batch of fry first appeared to me on April 28th. Then soon after a few more, and today after moving the fry 'camp' over closer to the end of the tank, I spotted 3 blue platy fry. So far I have about 9-10 sunburst, 3 yellow twin bar, and 3 blue platy. It has been such fun!
Sharing my Joy.. heres 3 of the babies and the 29G tank.
..eh eh eh....guess I really should spell PLATY correctly,
EDIT: I fixed your typo for ya Mare! Last edited by capekate; May 31st, 2009 at 06:52 AM.

| That looks really cool. Is it a store bought divider or is it DIY? |

I just couldn't let my 1st fry "go the way of community platy tank fry go "... I have places for the babies to go to when their time is right. Tho I may want to keep the blues for myself. |

| Aren't they cute? When I had my first fry right before Thanksgiving I worried about them constantly. Since then I've found out that if they make it to a week, they're home free. But I have a lot of plants in there for them to hide in. Now I'm overrun, and just started another 20 gallon tank with the babies.
Have fun! The tank looks great. |

I NOW have over 40 assorted sunburst and yellow twin bar platys. lol I have my 5G with my original 7 sunburst and 2 blue platys and of course I found more fry in there. They are prolific breeders I no longer worry about breeding nets etc. I have a nice compact plant area, and the fry thrive in there. Any of the adult platys can give birth in the 29G and they will have a safe area to grow in.
..Now to find homes for them |

| I know what you mean! I started with a couple blue, a couple twin bar, some sunset and a tiger male and now I have too many to count. I don't separate the babies at all, just let survival of the fittest go on, with a lot of plants to hide in. It seems like 4-5 survive out of every birth though. So now I have 4 in 1, 10 gallon, 3 in another, and a bunch in 2 20 gallons. I just divided them up into breeding groups kind of, mixing the colors since I like to see the unusual results. I'd still like to get a white mickey mouse, or another tiger since that guy died fairly soon. But they are SOO pretty!
I still have 26 without any platies, but I'm toying with the idea of putting a swordtail trio in there.
Have you tried Craigslist for finding homes? |

Have you tried Craigslist for finding homes? | hi, I don't know what a tiger platy looks like, would love to see a picture of yours? It sounds interesting. LOL I thought I had a good batch of blue platys, but as they are aging ( 3 weeks old) I see they have breed with a sunburst. Still they have their blue bellies but an unusual light orange band on the dorsal fin. Im looking forward to how they develop. They weren't the true solid blues, more like the coral blue. I have both.
I guess the swords, which are platy related, would breed just fine. Wonder how the tails will fare in the cross breeding? A lots of possibilities..
Im working on separating the 'true' blues so I have a good line of fry
I agree they are SOOO pretty, platys are cool fish
ohhh...CraigsList..I think Im going to stay local.. |
