| | Fish Bum | Flashing, but no sign of disease Hi everyone. A few of my platies are flashing, but there is no sign of disease. Does anyone know if this can be a behavioral thing? Everything I've read suggests ICH or Velvet, but there is no sign of either, except the flashing. About a month ago, I successfully eradicated Ich with heat tx and only lost the one fish that brought the Ich home. All others have been fine since then. Absolutely no other sign of any disease except flashing. I've raised the heat just in case and after a week of that, still no sign of disease except the occasional flashing. Any words of wisdom?

| | Fish Keeper | Hi and welcome to fishlore
I have not seen flashing with any of my plattys except when I had water problems but your readings disprove that being an issue. |

| | Fish Bum | Yeah, I'm really perplexed by this. |

| | Fish Keeper | I'm really a noob on fish diseases, but could be a parasite in the gills, as far as I know; thus you wouldn't see it. |

| | Fish Helper | My guppies started flashing regularly last night as well. Same as you, my fish have no other symptoms. Fish are actively eating and searching for food. Water parameters are fine at 0/0/10.
I also previously suspected ich, so I've had the tank with salt and heat for the last 2 weeks. That should have taken care of it, had it been ich. I'm considering treating with coppersafe because it seems like symptoms of external parasites. |

| | Fish Bum | I think I might try Coppersafe. Does anyone know if it's safe for cories? I haven't read anywhere that it contains Malachite Green or other typical Ich treatments that can be toxic to them. Enough of the fish seem to be affected that I think I should treat the whole 20 gal. |

| | Fish Helper | Looks like a few threads on coppersafe and cory cats on fishlore. Search for "coppersafe cory cats".
btw, one thing you might try first is a pwc, and see if it helps. Just in case there is something in the water irritating them. I did a 50% pwc last night, and my fish are still flashing regularly... |

| | Fish Bum | It looks like it's worth a try. My regular pwc was due last week when I first noticed the flashing. That's when I turned the heat up and I thought a week would be enough for any other symptoms to manifest, but still none and still no other behavior changes. It's odd. So I'll try the Coppersafe and hope for the best. Thanks for the tips. |

| | Fish Bum | Just wanted to thank you guys for your input. After doing some more research, my guys were having symptoms of internal parasites as well. The Coppersafe and some medicated food seems to have done the trick. No more flashing and everyone's poop looks normal. |

| | Fish Helper | That's great! Glad your fish are better.
Coppersafe looks like it has worked for my fish as well. Although, I will keep it in the tank a little longer just to be sure the problem is gone. |

| | Fish Bum | Yeah, I'm also going to keep the Coppersafe in there for about another 2 weeks or so since all my other test readings are normal. My babies are back to picking at the algae on the decor and chasing each other around again. I didn't even realize how listless they were, it's so great to see them active again. Even my cory cats and my "King of all he surveys" betta are more active. |

Its extremely toxic and the amounts per tank needs strict calculations, and the tank observed for quick withdrawal of fish is toxicity occurs.. OHH JEESHHHH...OLD THREAD.... |
