Hello all
one of my platys are acting funny, each time he goes past or near a plant he will rub up against it,
turns on a angle and brushes past each plant it goes past
he does it too about 4+ items then calms down then does it again .

is there anything to be worried about?

also what is some good food for them? flakes, live shrimp? frozen worms?

Welcome to fishlore spandex. It sounds like your fish is looking for food. Mine do that and kick up any food that is on the ground and such.. You do have to be careful though and make sure it isn't sick. I believe scratching like that can also be a sign of ick. Does your fish have any white spots or any other weird \ foreign thing on its body?? If you post your tank size and water perameters also this will help carol and the others to help you better. yes if the fish has any funny looking areas on his body, this is known as flashing and means the fish feels irritation and is trying to rub it off. Sometimes it is ICH or Velvet or could be a sign of other parasites on the body. Check for white spots or turn the lights off in the room and on the tank and shine a flashlight on the fish and see if he looks like he is sprinkled with gold dust (a sign of velvet disease). If these two are present the course of treatment is simple. Just slowly raise the temperature of the tank to 85 degrees F or 29 degrees C. About 1 degree per 2 hours would be the rate of raise that is safe. When it is the temperature mentioned it needs to stay there for a minimum of 14 days for the cycle of the parasite to run through and the things to die. This usually works without the use of medication.

If the fish is rubbing against objects, it could be an onset of some disease (ich in particular). I'd watch the fish closely now and I'd perform larger and more frequent water changes. Anyway, what are your ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate readings? How often do you perform water changes and how large/small are they? What is the size of your tank? How many fish and what kinds of fish do you have in there?

thanks guys, I'm only new so i dont know much
its a 42G tank, or 160Lt's
he was doing it while he was eating, the tank is only around 3 weeks old now, so the readings are rather high
(yer i should have waited but i couldn't with a big tank and no fish, and my small tank was just getting dirty way to fast)
ill keep an eye out on him today and see how he acts, i don't believe he has something wrong with him. he doesn't look damaged or have white spots on him *one of my fish did a few days ago and past away. which in return has got me a little worried.
ill update shortly with some more info and ill keep an eye out on him today


also i just remembered that i see him sitting on the tank or in plants not moving 2-3 times now. just like someone sun baking
should i be worried
