My two new Red Wag Platys spend a fair amount of time sucking off of various things in the tank. Are they known to eat algae?

They are probably picking at food from off the bottom- my two newest platies will spend time eating any food that lands on the plants. Silly, cute little buggers.

Mine does the same thing. He'll eat clumps of algae that's built up on the side of the tank, even some hair algae.

i dont know about platies, but i know my mollie tries to eat absolutely every surface in the tank

my platies love to eat the algae chips that i put in for my pleco.

i think all fish nip at algae here and there really... its like how we eat salads from time to time i guess?
