| pregnant fishies
Hey everyone, just a quick question, i'm pretty sure that at least one of my paties is pregnant and about to pop anytime as well as two of my guppies, i already had 4 guppy babies born into my tank a week ago and was wondering if anyone could tell me how i can tell if my platy is ready to or is going to give birth? pictures of them would be a great help also, thankyou

| FAT BELLIES and hanging on the bottom are the two signs I look for. | |

| When a female guppy is pregnant she will develop a dark triangular shaped gravid spot near her anal vent. This will get larger and darker as the pregnancy progresses.. i believe this applies to the platy also | |

| Yes, Steen it does, except it is much harder to see on Platies. The gravid spot is acturally the eyes of the fry visible through the mother's body. | |

| thanks guys this helps alot, their eyes?! thats so cool lol well ive seperated the guppies because i have a feeling they're about to frop a few babies!  will let you know how it goes :P

| My guppy just had fry! they are so little, I have got some breeder grass on the surface and a breeder grass ball in there aswell. | |

| hey guys, just a quick update. my guppies finally had babies, i looked in my tank last night and saw this little spec floating around the bottom, so we managaged to save it from being eaten along with 5 more guppe babies, we also notices that one of our mollies had also had a baby making seven saved babies so hopefuly we can keep them all alive. sadly my last 4 babies died of fin rot alon with two of my guppies, but we have since changed the water and things are looking up fingers crossed! | |
