How do you tell the difference between a male and female platy and same with mollies.

Darn, I went to the livebeares page and looked at the pictures, still cannot verify the sex of one of the platys, for they both tuck their anal fins in when they swim away, kind of as if they are saying do not look at that. the female though is definitely is hiding out in a cave, more often in the past two days, nipping towads any other fish that may approach. When she is not in the cave she joins the unidentified one in swimming around the tank, and then they stop to both , what looks like shivering in the corner. I have questions about guppies and neon tetras but this is not the place to post these questions.

BTW I am new to the message boards but have been visiting fish lore for a long time, one of my favorite spots on the web dealing with fish.
