Sunset Platy

I JUST BOUGHT TWO SUNSETS AND i WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS A BETTER WAY OF KNOWING WHAT THE SEX IS OF THEM. THE LADY AT THE STORE SAID A BOY AND A GIRL. I JUST CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW SHE COULD TELL. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME TELLING THEM APART. ALSO I HAVE A PEACOCK EEL AND I CANNOT FIND HIM IN THE AQUARIUM. I KNOW THEY ARE KNOWN FOR ESCAPING,BUT I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF THIS AQUARIUM. ALSO WILL THEY GO FAR UNDER THE ROCKS TO HIDE?

Congratulations on your new platys! Here's a thread with pictures showing the difference between male and female platys: Sexing Livebearers

Sexing livebearers is easy. Under the male's belly, between his back fins, there will be a little pointy thing, folded against his body and pointing backwards.

As for the eel, check inside your filter.

You say the tank has been set up for one day? Or did you cycle it first, and the fish have been in there for one day?

Well He Wasn't In The Filter And I Have Looked Under The Ornaments And Behind The Plants. He Isn't There. Do U Think He Could Have Buried Himself Under The Gravel To The Point Where I Can't See Him? He Was There Today Around Noon And I Have Looked Around The Aquarium And Can't Find Him. So I Turned The Lights Out To See If He Will Come Out. I Hope He Is Ok!! Thanks Everyone And Now I Know The Difference Between The Two Platys So Thank You For That Link!!

these eels love to bury themselves in gravel. Especially if your using a finer type gravel. Check around for the very tip of his head poking out. I have had them in the past in a 55 gallon and it was very hard to find them. Try checking the corners also, these fish love to feel safe and secure.

If you have male and female platys - take back the female and replace with males. If you have both sexes - you will be HUGELY overstocked! Oh, and can you please turn the caps of? It can be annoying.
