platy gender ?

hey guy i need ur help. how can i tell if a platy is male or female? and is it normal for 2 platy fish to fight? because i tried to breed them but when i put them both in the 10 gallon they fight

Welcome to Fishlore. Platys are best kept in a group of at least 3 and if you have male and female, you want at least 2-3 females per male.

Livebearers are some of the easiest fish to sex... What you do is you can look at the fin right below the tail... Males fins are pointed, females aren't. Just make sure that the fin is full out, because once what was supposed to be a girl turned out to be a guy...

No, not a swordtail... to me, it looks like the males have a little penis that they hold close to their body, while the females have 2 fins that drop down in that place.

The on with the green background is male. See how there is a point on his fin? the other is female, whose fins are rounded
