I'm thinking about getting platies for my 10-gallon tank after I move my two fantails to a 29- gallon. Just in advance how would I get rid of the excess fry without letting them getting eaten by the parents and/or other fish?

If you have a good lfs they will buy them from you or give you store credit and extra money is good when it comes to fish you could also get 2 males or 2 females if you lfs wont take the fry

Do most fish stores put bought fish into quarintine tanks or do they just put them in the normal tank?

The good ones will quarintine them for a while but some, and most chain stores, will just dump them in the main tanks

well, the fish store I go to is a family business and they are really nice, ill check if they'll take other people's fish. Thnx for helping out.

A well-run LFS would be my first choice for the fry.. or another tank to raise the fry in.

Do know that platies are usually housed at fishstores with both genders in a tank, if you get only female platies you will still probably have babies. They can store sperm for upwards of 6 months, reinpregnating themselves until the storage of sperm has run dry.
