3 week old platy fry

Hi, I have 8, 3 week old platy fry, and they are doing fantastic. I have been feeding them Hikari First Bites which is formulated for their balanced nutrition and it has been working well, they have grown a lot. I was just wondering if I should start switching them to something a little larger. They are still pretty small but the microscopic pellets seem maybe to small for them, plus i think its what keeps causing the tank to turn a funky green and killing the plant in there. I was thinking about switching to baby brine shrimp for one meal a day but if i do how does that work, I've never hatched them before. Any suggestions people are willing to throw me about raising fry I am all ears and appreciative.

they sound ready for crushed/crumbled flakes. I'd recommend the Omega One veggie flakes or the Nutrafin livebearer flakes.

Any reason you suggest those? Just curious. I know they still need a decent amount of protein, do you have any suggestions on how to get them that?

I personally would definately use Omega One veggie flakes. Omega One is one of the better brands of fish food ingredient-wise, and livebearers (especially fry) need lots of veggie matter in their diets--I believe I've heard they grow faster with a veggie-based diet. For variety you could alternate with regular tropical flakes (O.O. makes those two) and BBS.

Thanks that helps a lot. I have some tetra flake food that I feed my adult platy and molly, but I'll pick up some of the Omega veggie flakes for the fry. I think I'll also try bbs or microworms.

Thanks again

Chris

they can still eat the powdered flakes if u want
just moniter the tank if the food apparenlty sinks then either u r feeding them too much or they are getting fed to rapidly
