If I get a platys, would it like it better with another one, or by itself?

It's usually advised to get at least three of them, in a ratio of 1 male to 2 or more females. Or all females works too - you just don't want too many males.

Myself, I've always had at least three, so I can't tell you why not to have fewer. They're really amiable fish though! I love my platys.

Platys are great fish but you want to have 3 or more.. if you mix them, i'd go with 1 male to 2-3 females or go with all males if you want to not have any fry. If you have just 2 of them, the pecking order will be setup with 1 always being picked on.

Males seem to do well together if no female is with them to make them jealous/ stressed out; I highly recommend platys their very fun and peaceful.
