Can I put a piranha in a 10 gallon tank?

Can I put a Piranha in a ten gallon tank? If not, how big does the tank have to be? What is the most similar fish that is very aggressive that uses feeder fish and can fit in a ten gallon tank?

I do not believe there are any fish big enough to eat feeders that you could put in a 10 gallon, sorry. Brianna

From the little bit of reading I have done on pirahnas, it appears they need to be in groups of at least 3, making your tank too small.

http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Piranha.htm - looks like piranhas need 30g tanks minimum.

The pirahas fully grown length will be nearly as long as yor tank!
As what aggressive fish can fit in your tank, well cichlids are known for their aggression but like Brianna said I'm afraid they are'nt going to fit in your tank...

Re: Can I put a piranha in a 10 gallon tank?

There is a type of pirhana that can be kept in a 20 gallon for life I think, but it might be a 30. There are also a type of tetra looking fish with a pirhana personality. They stay around 3-4" and could be kept in 30gallon tank I believe. If you are interested I could find the name, I think it's oxy somthing.

i put my pirhana in my ten gallon just because it looked cool. but i made sure that i had a 20 gallon for when he gets bigger. so what im trying to say is you can as long as you have another tank for when he gets big.

A 20 gallon won't be large enough either. Most pirhanas get a foot or larger thus they need a larger tank to swim and turn around in. They also are extremely messy eaters and need a large quantity of water to dillute the junk in.

Re: Can I put a piranha in a 10 gallon tank?

They will get huge and definitely grow out of your 10 and 20 gallon tank. In the wild, they don't live to get that big (actually fished, and released, these in the Amazon) but a good friend has what I believe is a 100+ gallon tank and he has ONE incredibly huge piranha in it. It is extremely scary looking! At leaste for me... But I would really think about really upgrading to a much much bigger tank. They are very aggressive too so... good luck!

oscars eat feeder fish but min tank size is 40 gal. and pironhas need a lot of filteration and power heads to replacte water flow from where they are from.
