Lighting for RB Piranha??

Just a quick question....

I ordered some moonlighting from digikits.com....and I was wondering if those will be any problem for Red Belly Piranha. I dont want it to hurt them any or put any stress on them.

What do you guys think??

Hi, RiffDawg15
I have been raising Piranhas for a few years and I love them, I have two species Black and Red Bellies and I just recieved 12 new red Bellies now I;ve always bought them at about 3 or 4 in. but these are only 1 in. and im wondering if the care and feeding are the same? i.e. brine shrimp, blood worms, flakes etc. can you suggest more?

Brine shrimp, blood worms, and flakes should do fine... You could get frozen beef hearts (squared in the package) you could cut it up into smaller pieces...If you do the beef hearts only do it once a week as a treat.

If you feed live fish then you could probably do small comets or rosie's. Other than that you should be fine feeding them the brine shrimp, blood worms, and flakes until they get bigger. You probably already know, they grow really fast until they get about 4-5 inches long.

Good luck, if you have any other questions feel free to ask. Ill do my best to answer them.

New Problems

Aw Man!
I have lost 3 baby RB's to the canister intake, I did see this coming so I put a
12" clear plastic tube over it but the curious devils got into it any. I put rocks and driftwod, plants in but maybe I should change filter systems?
its a 40 gal. aquarium and they have it all to themselves.... HELP

Id suggest getting an Emperor 400 filter. I have a 55 gallon with a Whisper 60 and an Emperor 400 filter, its a little bit of an over kill for my tank but its clean as can be.

The Emperor 400 filter would work perfectly for your 40 gallon.
