I was always wondering about people having piranhas in their tanks. How do you feed a piranha? From what I know they can bite real hard and hurt real bad. You're not putting your hands in that water, right? And how do you clean a tank with fish this aggressive? Plus, what do you feed them with? And ... won't the piranhas hurt the pleco?
well my pirahnas are very little. they are only about 1-2 inches. I feed them flake food and i have guppies in there but they have been eating the flake food. i put my hand in the tank so they get used to it when they getbigger but right now they are scared of my hand. They are fun to watch but they are very skidish and are fast swimmers. right now my pleco is 4 in so i asked people and they said they probably wont hurt the pleco since it will get bigger. it is a common pleco
Contrary to popular belief, piranha will rarely attack a human hand for the sake of attacking....In fact, they'll probably swim the other way....Hollywood has built up the piranha as some type of human killer, when quite the opposite is true. Though the risk is always there if the fish are underfed or feel threatened in any way.
Yes i will. they do run a way when they see my hand. when they get bigger they might attack my hand but im not worried about it right now they are skidish fish. they eat 7 guppies in two days or at least killed them and now it has been over a month and three are still in there they just eat flake food. They are actualy quite fun to watch because they are so fast and active.
Vin, you're right. My knowledge about piranhas comes from what I have seen on TV only. I never really realized I might have been misguided. Well then, it's very good that they are not so aggressive as they are pictured on TV.
Ya thats something I hate about pirhanas, whenever somebody says something about pirhanas they think they are vicious meat eaters when really they are skitish fish that are AFRAID of humans unless they are starving.
yes you are all right. In movies and T.V shows it shows them in a group eating big animals and stuff. They might be killer in larger groups but in a small group of two they are fine. They are cool fish and i cant wait untill they get bigger it will be so cool
As I mentioned - attacks in the wild are very rare. I have read that the infrequent attacks in the aquarium setting come as a result of fish being underfed. I guess you could say, keep your piranha well fed, keep your fingers.....
