Need tips for taking good photographs of fish

Does anyone have any good tips or an FAQ for taking photographs of fish in an aquarium? I took a few back in the thirty-five millimeter days that didn't turn out so well. I have a basic digital camera, and after a lot of trial and error, the pictures are better, but still not great.

Set your digital on Macro....Turn the flash on...Get CLOSE up ....Point the camera at a downwards angle...Sit for about 6 hours and wait for the fish to stay still lol And shoot!

I hope this helps....What kind of fish are they?

use the macro setting ( usually shown by a flower symbol) . It takes a lot of bad pix to come out with a few good ones. Take a lot and delete the bad ones.

Great advice. I figured out the macro setting pretty quick. The flash is a little trouble, there always seems to be soem flash glare. Thanks!

Joe, if you point the lens down you won't get the glare.....

The lens against the glass helps if you can. Also if you are getting too much flash in your photo you can diffuse it by holding up a tissue or paper over the flash when you are snapping the shot. Diffusing will help ALOT.

i actually don't use flash for a lot of my pictures, if there is enough lighting in the tank and in the room it's not really necessary. it probably also helps that my camera can change from light to dark settings without flash or anything.

You could video record the fish, play it on your computer pause the video and take screen shots. just throwing in another idea.

I dont use a flash either. I turn out all the room lights and the tank lights seem to be bright enough. Be patient, I have taken tons of pics just to get 2 or 3 good ones. Good luck!
