Just a small warning (learn from my stupid mistake)

I bought a GBR (German Blue Ram) that I put in my recently decorated tank. I put texas holey in the tank. My idiot move was that the rock cause the pH to spike to 8.2, and the GBR died. STUPID ME!

pH is a big deal with some fish, just a little FYI.

The pH shouldn't have spiked that fast. The limestone dissolving is what causes the pH to rise and it dissolves very slowly. chances are when you do water changes and gravel vacuums you are removing what little has dissolved.
i ahve texs Holey rock in my shellie tank and the pH is the same as the rest of my tanks
Could something else have caused it to spike?
I'm so sorry you lost your GBR. they are really cool little fish.

What else could cause the pH to spike so high? I tested the city water which was 7.2, my other tank which also has holey rock (but also some real driftwood) which came out 7.4. I have no clue as to what could have caused the spike other than the rock being new and having more lime available to dissolve. The other parameters were perfect to note.
