PH question

Hello All,

The pH in my tanks are rising all the time. Most of the readings are at 8.8
I have tested the water from the tap at 7.8
Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks

I really do not like using chemicals in the tanks. I have live plants in the tank, from my understanding some of these products are not good for plants.

I agree on not using meds...ph is something fish can aclimate to...but 8.8 is a bit high...what do you have in it for decorations and plants? im woindering why it creeps up so high...hmmm....

Having a stable ph is much better than trying to keep it the "perfect" ph. The chemicals to adjust ph usually cause a fluctuation when it's time to add them again. Most fish will acclimatize to what the normal ph for your water is.
You spoke of reading from tape? Most of the testing strips are highly unreliable. The biggest majority of our members use API master freshwater testing kit. It is a liquid testing system and much more consistant with readings.
Hope that helps. Just give a yell if you still have questions.

Hi,
I have mostly live plants in the tanks, some decorations, driftwood. I use eco-complete and gravel.
I do test the water with API.
Let me know if you need any more information.
Some of the fish are not very happy right now, in the tanks where the PH is high.
By the way all the other tests are perfect.

Hmm...if I remember correctly, I thought driftwood was suppose to lower ph's? I have zero experience on the eco-complete so im sure someone here will know more...
anytime a fish isnt happy, stressed, or just not normal, the best is always water changes...making sure you treat the tap water with some kind of conditioner...I hope someone can help as to why the ph is so high ... I honestly never test for ph in my tanks...I have well water thats just about perfect and as long as I keep the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in check, I have very happy fish

Driftwood is supposed to lower pH, what kind of driftwood do you have in the tank?

I believe the driftwood is mopani.
I don't know what is happening to the tanks, some tanks are higher than others.
