ph question

can anyone help me regarding pH? my tank has guppies, platys, a pleco, moiies, and two snails, and a albino catfish and cory. albino died, brought it to store, they checked the water and said it was too acidic, 6.4, i added one teaspoon of alkaline buffer to raise the ph, also bought a stone ornament, now the ph is testing 7.6, i have done two 25% water changes, still ph is 7.6. today, the cory died, swam upside down, then just stayed that way, he was fine yesterday. my ammonia is 5, nitrate and nitrite 0. any suggestions. i removed the ornament. one of my platys (i think she is pregnant) is less active and acting aloof not wagging her tail as much. i dont know if she is sick or giving birth soon. any ideas?

pH is a thing where as long as you aclimate good, you can basically get away with anything. I would say the killer here is amonia, as even the smallest amount is toxic. I would do 50% water changes daily ontill there is no ammonia and no nitrites and only a little nitrates.

thanks, already did a 25% change, do you know about the rock i bought, looks like some kind of sandstone, alittle porous, like dessert stone. could that be adversely affecting conditions? i also added alittle aloe conditioner to decrease any stress

I have one that is orangeish yellow with very faint lines, kind pourus, it has a hole in the middle like a tunnel for fish to swim through. It has been in just about everytank I own and it never did any thing bad.
