Ph 8.8

My water PH is very high. I have been doing a lot of reading where this is concerned because my tank is cycled and I am getting ready to add fish. It seems that most fish can adapt to different PH and changing PH is bad but mine is pretty extreme. I am testing with API High Range PH and it is strong dark purple. It is the highest it can go. So I guess I am wondering if fish can adjust to something that high or should I try to get that regulated. Also I use tap water for my tank and the tap water is that PH.

If you think I should try to drop it, if you don't mide please give me suggestions. Thanks.

Alright so I just tested my tap water again against my tank water....I am getting about 7.4 in tap and 8.8 in tank

What is in the tank that is making PH so high? Gravel, deco?

What type of gravel are you using?
How long has the tank been set up?

Any rocks?

I am using topfin gravel I purchased it at petsmart. As far as rock, it is just deco. So its hard and looks like rock but I am don't know what it is actually made of. I also purchased it from petsmart. Thanks

Take the 'rock' out, put a couple of drops of vinegar on it, and see if it fizzes.

The topfin gravel should be entirely neutral.

Have you been changing water out, or just adding it when it gets lower? Just adding water can concentrate the salts/carbonates in the water, which could, I would guess, raise the pH.
