do pearls and golds get along ok?

i realize it kinda depends on the attitude of the fish, but in GENERAL....do they jive ok?

With plenty of space, and some plants (or other decor) to break up line of sight, they should generally get along.

41 gallon, kinda tall. dunno. don't have any of them yet, just tryin to get a basic stocking list together.

How long is the tank? The only real problem you'll have is that all labyrinth fish carry some amount of the territoriality that is famous in bettas. With gourami, it's nowhere near as pronounced, and as long as they each have some space they can claim as their own, they usually do okay. Even dwarf gourami, which tend to be more aggressive, can get along with two or more males in a tank as long as they aren't crammed in too tightly.

and i'm thinkin about gettin some long sticks of lucky bamboo to put in there to go clear out of the top. to kinda hide intakes and stuff, and activate the space over the tank a little. keep it interesting.

That probably would be okay. As long as you have places to hide, there shouldn't be issues.

i can't fit in the tank to hide! the fish should be able to though!
