long and lean gourami

My male pearl gourami (Carlisle) is long and lean compared to the female (Esme). She is very short and stout. Is this a natural difference in body shape?

Females tend to be rounder then the males.

I never thought it would be that obvious, i mean to difference in shape. Is it that easy in tetras too?

I'm not sure about tetras, as I've never kept them.

the difference in gouramis is much more pronounced, i think tetras (depending on the variety) are much harder to sex than gouramis
